Part three of the Brer Rabbit triptych. This also has the story written into the background for texture and to spark the viewer’s curiosity about the old stories. Many we have heard since childhood, like the story of the Tar Baby, but seldom do we hear about the original, old stories that didn’t become so popular. Perhaps they remained obscure for good reasons, many of them were too gruesome to be children’s stories.

This is piece two of the Brer Rabbit series which was created for my senior show. I also has the abridged story scribbled into the background as texture. Like a puzzle you can read the whole story, if you can find it. Or better yet, just find it at the library and read it.

This was a voluntary portrait of a friend. The picture was taken the first day we met and he was sporting one of his wife’s hand-made alpaca hats. He looked so frail and yet his personality was so colorful, that I just had to try to capture that in this watercolor / colored pencil sketch.

Not my Will, But….

This painting was created this year in April. It is water color and graphite, with acrylic accents. I wanted to depict what it was like for Jesus in that moment of decision in the garden of Gethsemane when he had to choose God’s will or his own. It struck me how real it is that Christ actually shared in our temptations, just like the Bible claims and he never asks us to do anything he didn’t do first!

This mural was painted for Wehr Ford in Mountain Grove MO. It is approximately 36 x 7 feet in dimension. It was painted all by hand. I grafted out the dimensions of each car with a grid system while working off of a mobile scaffolding. It took me about two and a half months.
