“Warts and All”

This is my second sculpture/painting. “Warts and All” (31×27″) is similar to “Frog Eye” but with the 3-D element of “Charming” I used Magi-sculpt and sand to create the textures and the dome shape of the eye. Then I used metallic paint on the body and a combination of metallic paint and gold-leaf on the eye. A layer of high gloss acrylic gel medium on the eye was my final touch.

“Charming”

This is my latest painting, titled Charming. Not only does it have dimensional texture and real fresh-water pearls embedded in the surface, but the dragon’s arm is hinged at the elbow and shoulder and the girls arm pivots at the shoulder. Controlled by a piece of fishing-line that runs between the front and back panel, the girl and dragon’s arms move simultaneously when the viewer pulls a tassel that hangs from the bottom of the painting (not in picture) When released, everything is pulled back into position by a counterweight stone, which also hangs from the bottom of the painting.

Brer Rabbit Series

This is a three-part series based on the stories of Brer Rabbit. Each one has the short story, which it is based on, scribbled into the background as texture. The Brer Rabbit that we grew up knowing was clever and funny, but seldom do we hear of the original stories that did not make it into the modern children’s books because of their violent themes. Many of the animal characters never lived to see “happily ever after.” Perhaps you know these stories well, or perhaps you would like to check them out from the library to meet the REAL Brer Rabbit!
